I regard Norfolk as my spiritual home, the whole feel of the area is right for me. Perhaps one day I'll be able to live there, and make landscape photographs and seascapes every day.

Visiting Norfolk for me restores the spirit, Norfolk has clean fresh air with huge clean beaches. There is open space and farmland as far as the eye can see and a huge variety of wildlife. Down almost every lane are pretty villages and historic churches. The pace of life is so much slower, people have time for you and even the towns are relaxed.

Everywhere you go the history of the county is evident. The first thing most people would notice are the pretty flint cottages and churches, many of which date back to the middle ages. As you look deeper you will find evidence of neolithic camps often situated where flints could be quarried. The local tribe, the Iceni, were led by Boudica and famously revolted against the Roman invasion.

Norfolk's economy is dominated by agriculture, tourism and, until recently fishing but the latter has now declined sharply and only pockets of specialized activity are viable. Whilst tourism has been a major source of income for the county it has also been a major problem to the local people and resulted in housing, particularly near the coast, becoming unaffordable to many. This is a great shame since Norfolk people, what few there are of them, are among the best in the country. The county was so decimated by the black death and the mecanisation of agriculure the population, even now, is believed to be less than it was 800 years ago.
