A sad day

Throughout my life there has hardly been a day when I didn't have a dog. A while back our last dog died and the next day our neighbour's cat moved itself in and would not go home. Skippy was a loyal, if indolent, friend for almost three years. he would always be there to greet me when I came in, or even if I came downstairs from working in my office he would cry "I'm here Dad, don't forget me." Open the fridge though and he would be there in an instant; ham, milk, yoghurt... well there wasn't much in the fridge he did not like - we had to ration the little gourmand a bit.
Today was the end of the line for poor Skippy, he has made several trips to the vet and back over the last year; today it was a one way trip. His lungs filling with fluid, kidney problems and a growth inside him......
He was damn ugly looking for a dog but I shall miss my old friend.
